Central Asian Flyway Initiative takes flight

The fledgling Central Asian Flyway (CAF) Initiative will bring together governments and conservation actors from thirty nations to coordinate the conservation of migratory birds in this region under the umbrella of the Convention on Migratory Species. An inaugural meeting was held online in early October by the Government of India. EBA leader Mimi Kessler serves as the IUCN Focal Point to the CAF, and we are excited about the opportunities this initiative brings for conservation of the Great Bustard, Little Bustard, and Asian Houbara. Each of these species migrates long distances through Central Asia. International coordination and shared focus is much needed for their conservation!
