Special Journal Issue: A Comprehensive Review of the Status of the “Eastern population” of Little Bustard

This summer’s volume 47 of the ornithological journal Sandgrouse features comprehensive coverage of the status of the Little Bustard in its “eastern range.”

A series of extirpations of Little Bustard populations across Central and Eastern Europe during the 20th century resulted in a rift in the species’ range. While remaining populations of Little Bustards in western Europe have suffered steep declines over the past decade, the status of the eastern population, stretching from Ukraine eastwards through Xinjiang, China, has been less clear.

The special issue contains 16 geographically focused articles, one summary article, a preface, and an analysis of differential migration by Little Bustards in their eastern range. This issue was edited by Dr Mimi Kessler, Louis-Philippe Campeau, and Dr Nigel Collar, with support of Sandgrouse editor Dr Paul Donald.
